Painting DeathWatch Army: Week 6; #Warmaster's Crusade

As you already know, Volomir.com presented their challenge "Warmaster's Crusade"Basically, a couple of painters have a limited time to complete a 1000 points Warhammer 40.000 army.

As you know I'm participating aside them until checkpoint 3 in June where Warmasters must have completed 500 points army. My objective is to paint 710 points at that point.

Also, I'll keep you updated on the work I do every week I work in this Army. Past Monday 30th I posted the work done in week #5 so I reach this point:

This past week I started to paint details. The most common elements on the minis were leather and red elements so I tried to do that.

Let's see:

First I started with leather. This time I'll use a different marine as he has a big bag which is great to take pictures on.

I mixed texturing by dry dotting with texturing by streaking to get an old leather. I tried to do it very damaged as I'm going to work with glazes over it later so the effect is going to soften. I painted first the lights adding lighter browns and skin tones and later I started to paint in the same way shadows with mixtures of brown and black.

I clean and soften a bit what I did with some glazes and finished it applying some chestnut Ink to get a satin finish. The last step is to paint shadow and light outlines to increase definition.

I also painted the red tones. Unfortunately, I had some troubles during painting so I can not show any illustrative picture. I can say I started with a powerful dark red and increased it with lights adding first pure red, ochre, and later white. I painted shadows adding black and I clean with glazes of the most intense red I had and a bit of ink to achieve a strong color.

I painted in 2 ways, one for the matt reds (cloaks and tubes and this kind of things) a bit soften and pinky, and another one with stronger contrast and a final glossy varnish coat to gems and bottles.

I had no time enough to paint outlines in the matt ones.

And this is the group picture this week:
