Unlocking some Aleph painted minis

The shadows are being cleared to reveal another figure  I painted at the Paint Department of Hydra Studio.

Pay attention to the illumination of the base of this Dakini Tacbot.
Generally, these types of remotes form the backbone of Aleph's forces, due to their variety of combat options and their cost of economic deployment.

the second piece of the Aleph Set It's a limited edition miniature, which could only be achieved during the pre-orders of Beyond Red Veil. The Operatives of the Corporate Security Unit (CSU) are hired for commercial, industrial or private tasks, they form VIP escort and protection details and defend vital facilities with seamless professionalism.

The central figure is a Spotbot accompanied by two Netrods. That their adorable appearance doesn't deceive you, is sending your exact coordinates to its sniper!

During the next weeks, we will be showing a project by the Hydra Studio painting team. It is about this mysterious army composed of 16 figures of a well-known game.

Do you recognize any of the silhouettes?

Kingdom Death Necromancer

A couple of weeks ago I finished this Commission work done in our headquarters at Hydra Studio; This time I had to paint another Kingdom Death mini, a Necromancer.

Again, assembling and pinning this very thin and fragile miniature was very hard and stressing, but needed to protect it against shipping.

Painting it was easy considering the number of details those minis have and the freehand requirements from the customer, but once done, she looks awesome, don't you think?

Mortarion, Step by Step; Week 8

My plan was to finish Mortarion this week, but It was impossible. One of the hardest miniatures I ever painted is fighting back against my efforts so I'll need some more days to finish, but It's almost done!

Let's see the steps done this week:

Infinity: Naga

Naga is the colour scheme test for a new Army We're painting for Infinity, The game: Aleph.

Customer does request some extra blue colour to add to the classic white colours, so First, we painted one single miniature to fit the scheme and get some approval. Naga was the chosen one.

"The conditions on Paradiso require troops with special training and abilities, able to adapt to this savage planetary ecosystem. The duty of the Nagas in the Special Situations Section is to launch offensive operations independently or in tandem with regular forces, striking into the enemy-held territory by ground, water or air.

Since their creation, they have performed numerous raids with great success thanks to their first class stealth, night combat and terrain navigation techniques. They also work as a special exploration unit, using advanced cartographic devices to acquire better environmental knowledge than that of native inhabitants. Nagas are also prepared to run Direct Action and early enemy contact operations. They use non-conventional warfare techniques in all of its forms, both guerrilla and anti-guerrilla warfare, Evasion and Escape, sabotage, counter-terrorism, and their speciality, jungle combat. Since the opening of the Paradiso front, they have built up an incredible reputation in high-risk operations against the Combined Army. Trained on Acontecimento and forged in Paradiso’s emerald jungle, Nagas perfectly identify themselves with the reptilian Hindu mythical beings they are named for. Their greatest virtue is the element of surprise, displaying a disconcerting genius to always appear where a hole in the enemy’s defence exists. Their extraordinary capacity for rapid strike actions in any type of hostile territory makes them unique, not only for the Section but also for those who fight at their side."

What do you think about these changes?

Infinity: Libertos ABH

We are starting a new army for Infinity, The game! but, you should imagine which one ;-)

To introduce it, the first miniature is not a clue, or maybe it is? Libertos, Freedom Fighter, is an Authorised Bounty Hunter so he can fit in any Army that pays enough, but he chooses to fight for us!!

This incredible miniature was pained at our studio in the headquarters of Hydra Studio and it's the beginning of a complete commissioned army for a private Infinity's costumer.

We hope you like it!

Infinity Haqqislam Maghariba Guard

Maybe you can remember a Christmas pic with this big guy :-)

The Maghariba Guard is the cream of the crop of the Haqqislamite army. This celebrated armoured regiment produces the units that form the personal guard of the Hachib, Haqqislam’s Prime Minister. TAG technology is very expensive and, even though the Maghariba Guard Regiment is not the only one equipped with these single-man armoured combat vehicles, it is the most prestigious. Due to its prestigious nature, the Maghariba Guard has been able to gather the funds to replace its old Artefaktech XPR-1 units, manufactured under license in Bourak with the codename Bokböceği (Turkish for “Beetle”).

The more advanced XPR-5 Akrep (“Scorpion”) has been retrofitted to improve its close combat capabilities and includes a cutting-edge anti-ballistic defence system. Due to the scarcity of available units, High Command prefers not to risk them needlessly; Haqqislamite strategy books do not include massive armoured charges. Instead, the Maghariba Guard acts as a heavy anvil against which the Ghulam Infantry crushes the enemy. This does not mean that Maghariba pilots are chosen for their cautiousness. In fact, they tend to be very cunning, using their inferior numbers as an advantage and clearing away enemies with an intelligent and precise display of their increased mobility and firepower.

It's a commission I did some time ago, but I couldn't handle to post before. Maghariba is a very big piece, cast completely in white metal, so it was very heavy and hard to handle. One of the hardest points of this piece was to pin it. It must support shipping and we all know our favourite postman is not used to take care with mini's packages O:-)

But on the other hand, it's a beautiful model and once painted is something everyone would want to have in their showcase.

Mortarion Step by Step; Week 6

Well, another intense week of work on Mortarion. Slowly I can start to see light after all.

This week I was painting secondary elements and details, but very important to complete the miniature.

Lets' see the step by step of this week's work:

Mortarion Step by Step; Week 5

After a break of a couple of weeks, Mortarion is back to my painting table.

It's a hard and challenging miniature (maxiture), and often, painters need to stop and do something different when painting something like that. This is not an exception. I hope in a couple of weeks more I can say I accomplished this challenge.

Also, sometimes seems that we do nothing, but small details, almost imperceptible, took an incredible amount of time. This is the case this week. But, finally, I could finish the main body and I can focus now on painting spare parts that are easier to handle.

Let's see the steps done:

Infinity Haqqislam Bike #3

And finally the last one of this batch of 3 Infinity's Haqqislam bikes!

This is the twin of the first one, and of course, she fits perfectly with her sister and her friend.  Together, they are a perfect speed group.

Hope you like them. Wich one do you prefer?

Let's see what we did!

Mortarion step by step; Week 1

This week at Hydra Studio we started to paint Mortarion (well, when I say "we" I mean "me"; I paint personally all High-Quality works).

We decided to take some fast step by step pictures to post it at our facebook. Also, I'll share them with you on my blog too!

This week we had not so much time to work on it. Assembling and primming so big piece kept us busy a couple of days, but anyway we could do some interesting things.

Fran G. Project: "On the Bridge"

A long time ago, one of my best friends, Fran Gil, who is a master modeller for me and a great inspiration, even if he avoids totally the network, proposed me to cooperate in a couple of small scenes.

I of course accepted, but circumstances forced me to paint only in my free time, and that's not so much at all! Because of that, this second scene took me to complete it for almost 2 years. It's an insane amount of time.

This scene shows a couple of warriors on a robe bridge broken. We'll let at your imagination if Minotaur is saving or killing the other guy ;-). It was completely conversed by Fran and painted by me.

I know it does not reach my usual painting standards, but Fran is very happy with it in his showcase anyway, and also, I had some fun painting it.

Hope you like it too!

Kingdom Death #4

The last one of the batch of 4 miniatures I painted of Kingdom Death at Hydra Studio.

This time I tried to paint it as a summoner or something like that. With this mini, we finished the commission for this private customer, but we are going still to be painting Kingdom Death miniatures for other Customers that requested us to do something else for them.

Hope you like it!

Hispania Wargames, Grisalla (Grisaille) MasterClass

During the past weekend, Hydra Studio, where I'm currently Painting Head, did a painting MasterClass at Hispania Wargames where I expend a couple of hours painting 2 miniatures using Grisaille + Filters techniques with Airbrush (even if those techniques can be done with a brush).

The objective was to show people how they can improve their painting speed with armies that use the same colour schemes and at the same time, improve the quality of the painting work. In that way, I painted 2 minis at the same time with different qualities to show them that you don't need to be very skilful using an airbrush to paint in this way.

The Masterclass went great and so many people attended the 2 hours, with moments where we had more than 40 persons attending at the same time, something not very usual in this kind of events focused on tabletop wargaming.

We used 2 cameras to record the masterclass, but unfortunately, one of them didn't record anything and the other one was the assistant one, that was not in the best angle. Anyway, We'll try to recover everything useful and mount it in the following weeks.

Did you were there? tell us if you liked it :-)

Hispania Wargames: Masterclass

Hi guys. This post is related to a Spanish event where, mostly, people will be Spanish, so please, allow me this time to write in my own language.

New Year, New Life

Arsies Studio was on holidays since December, A lot of things were happening...

I have a BIG announcement: ARSIES STUDIO CLOSES

I've been working as a freelance for the last 10 years. I had so many ups and downs. Working as a freelance is hard, you are always a one-man army that had to do so many works in very different areas. Anyone that works in this way can tell you.

So It's time to change. Arsies Studio Closes to being integrated into Hydra Studio, Where I'm going to work as head of the painting Department (or "painting Head" as they like to call it).

Working with a Team means I can focus on my painting work to release more and better miniatures, tutorials, and multimedia resources. It will take some time to complete integration with my new teammates, but I'm sure in a couple of months we'll be working as one unit and producing exciting things.

For those who don't know them, Hydra Studio is a very young enterprise that is entering strongly into the modelling market, focused until now in development 3D sculpture (also for the miniature world as animation or video games) and 3D Printing, we are slowly creating new departments with the integration of Arsies Studio as the Painting Department and creating new ones that will be working soon as the Casting Department.

We're also finishing the accommodation of our new HeadQuarters in a big Industrial ship in La Línea de la Concepción (Spain), and we'll be able soon to show and offer new experiences from there.
